Sultan Ibrahim, known for his close ties with business leaders and a strong stance on governance, was elected by the Conference of Rulers, comprising the royal heads of Malaysia’s nine states. His reign will officially begin on February 1, 2025, succeeding Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, whose term concludes on January 31, 2025.
Who is Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar?
Sultan Ibrahim, 65, has ruled Johor since 2010 and is well-known for his proactive involvement in state affairs. He has also been a vocal advocate for economic development, national unity, and the welfare of the people. His leadership style, often described as decisive and business-oriented, has drawn attention both locally and internationally.

As Malaysia’s new monarch, Sultan Ibrahim is expected to play a key role in ensuring political stability, particularly in the wake of recent economic challenges and shifting political landscapes. His vast experience as a state ruler and his firm leadership approach are anticipated to influence national policies positively.
His Majesty’s official swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for February 2025, where he will take on the role of Malaysia’s constitutional head of state, overseeing national unity and serving as the supreme commander of the armed forces.
