The  IPL 2022 auction will be held on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru and the 15th edition of the showpiece event is expected to commence from March 27. With the introduction of two new franchises- Lucknow and Ahmedabad, the IPL 2022 is set to get bigger and better. All eyes will be on some of the in-form batters all over the world who would be looking forward to setting the stage on fire this summer.

While the best batters of each season have eventually gone on to bag the IPL Orange Cap, there have been some of those seasoned players who have made a mark permanently by breaching the three-figure mark on most occasions. Here’s a look at the batters to have scored the maximum number of IPL centuries.

Batters who have scored the most number of IPL centuries

Chris Gayle: The ‘Universe Boss’ might be out of form now, but there was a time when he used to score runs for fun. Gayle has six IPL centuries to his name and has scored 4965 runs from 142 matches averaging 39.72 at a strike rate of 148.96. The Caribbean power-hitter has won the IPL Orange Cap in 2011 and 2012 editions. The southpaw has not registered his name for the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Virat Kohli: Virat Kohli is second in this list with five centuries from 207 games, averaging 37.39 and a strike rate of 129.94. Four of those hundreds had come in the 2016 season when he was at his peak. The batting megastar scored 973 runs which is the highest individual score in an IPL season as the Royal Challengers Bangalore made their third final appearance where they went down to southern rivals Sunrisers Hyderabad. Overall, Kohli has 6283 IPL runs. He has been retained by RCB for IPL 2022.

David Warner: David Warner is arguably the most consistent batter in IPL history with 5449 runs from 150 appearances. He is third on this list having notched up four hundred averaging 41.59 and a strike rate of 139.96. The southpaw has gone on to bag the IPL Orange Cap in 2015, 2017, and 2019 editions respectively. Warner will be under the hammer in the IPL 2022 auction after being released by Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Shane Watson: The veteran Australian all-rounder has four centuries from 145 matches and has scored 3874 runs averaging 30.99 and a strike rate of 137.91. The two-time World Cup winner had scored a match-winning ton in the IPL 2018 final against SRH. Watson retired from franchise cricket after IPL 2020 and therefore, he will not be taking part in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

AB de Villiers: The innovative batter has three IPL hundreds from 184 outings averaging 39.70 and a strike rate of 151.68. Despite his over-the-top performances each season, the Proteas icon has unfortunately never been able to win the IPL Orange Cap award. He has scored 5162 IPL runs, Since ABD has announced his retirement from all forms of the game, he will not be a part of IPL 2022 as a player but RCB might reportedly rope him as a mentor.
