From the moment your eyes open in the morning to the second your head hits the pillow at night, your children are always at the forefront of your mind. Being a parent is one of the most difficult and rewarding jobs out there and it’s easy to feel like you are carrying the weight of the world.
It’s important to give yourself grace and remember that you are a good mother. You have all the qualities of a good mother and you are the perfect mother for your children!
Here are eight parenting tips to remember when things seem to be busting at the seams.
1. You Are Both Learning
When your toddler is melting down because he has to put pants on again today, just remember, he is learning how to navigate the world, just like you are learning how to be a parent.
In these frantic moments, try to stay calm and give him a few seconds to calm down. Then regroup, and do your best to get those pants on – one leg at a time.
2. Kids Will Be Kids
No matter how many times you ask your children to look before they walk behind someone on the swing set, it is a guarantee that someone will get distracted, walk right behind the swing, and get knocked down with a brand new boo-boo.
3. There Is Always Tomorrow
Today might be the most frantic day in your mothering to date. But that’s ok. You will finish the day, go to sleep, and wake up on a new day.
You have the opportunity to tackle situations in a new way to hopefully achieve a better outcome.
4. Good Mothers Say Sorry
It can be so easy to get caught up in “I told you so!” that we can forget to apologize when we are the ones to make mistakes.
If you find you have done something wrong, look at it as an opportunity to teach your child how to be humble and say sorry when we are in the wrong.
5. “I Love You” Goes a Long Way
There’s nothing quite like those three special words. “I love you” can make a great moment even sweeter, or turn a bad moment into something not so bad.
Throw the phrase in your day here and there and maybe one day your child will start randomly telling you right back!
6. You Don’t Have To Do It All
Social media gives us endless opportunities to compare ourselves to all the other “perfect” moms out there.
Remember, your child loves you just the way you are. If you prefer to wear yoga pants and a topknot every day, embrace it, girl! You don’t have to look perfect to have the qualities of a mother.
7. One Size Does Not Fit All
It’s hard to remember that all children are not the same. If your first child walked by 11 months but the second is taking her time, that’s ok!
Take the opportunity to carry her around a little longer and get a few extra baby hugs in because before long she will be walking – and running – away!
8. Time Is Fleeting
It’s remarkable how much time seems to speed up once you become a mother. The phrase “the days are long and the moments are short” rings so true.
Embrace these crazy moments of motherhood because one day they will just be sweet memories.
You Are a Great Mother
The gift of being a Mom is the greatest treasure you will ever receive. Your child was given to you specifically and you are perfect for one another.
When the milk has spilled on the floor, the dinner is burning and you are running late to yet another soccer practice, remember you are a good mother and you will get through this! Just take a deep breath and embrace the chaos! It will be gone before you know it.
